About

Laura is a performance artist, rule breaker, and spellbinder who reimagines the rules of performance. Moving between the worlds of visual art, music, voice, theatre, and cabaret she creates provocative, highly visual works that blur the line between concert, theatre, and art.

Visually driven and unapologetically theatrical, Laura creates work that plays with the boundaries between the beautiful and bizarre, the classical and the underground, the intimate and the spectacular. She is interested in transformation and in turning the familiar into something unexpected and transformed. Laura uses the stage as a space for fantasy, sensuality, humor and rebellion, inviting her audiences into worlds that are beautiful, strange, and a little bit dangerous.

At the heart of her practice is a desire to break the rules of what performance is supposed to be. A concert can become theatre. A soprano can become a character, an image, a body, a fantasy. Opera can leave the auditorium and find itself somewhere much darker, stranger and more alive.

Laura brings an extensive classical music background to this unconventional practice. An award winning lyric soprano, she has performed as a soloist, principal artist, recitalist both in Australia and Europe. Alongside her classical career Laura has performed and directed independent productions and performed for several years as a burlesque artist in Sydney and Berlin. It is the nexus of these two performance worlds that she has developed a practice that deliberately refuses to sit neatly within one discipline.

For Laura the classical voice isn’t a boundary, it’s a weapon.
